Lucas Goly
Luca Goly is a Brooklyn-based painter, illustrator, and creative director whose practice spans canvas, wearable art, and live performance. He has exhibited and live painted at Art Basel Miami, Scope New York, and the Harlem Fine Art Show, among other venues. His work is informed equally by Meso-American and indigenous visual traditions and the improvisational energy of street culture.
Goly is Gather Center’s first artist in residence focused on paintings to be displayed in solo exhibition Awakening : The Reverent Observer opening in April 2026. Goly will live paint with musical accompaniment with public viewing during his residency in April / May.
Awakening : The Reverent Observer expands on Gather Center’s recurring, annually-situated cycle. This program proposes the journey of our becoming as a consciousness spiral. Natural and human rhythms translate into a sequence of exhibitions across the lunar year. Awakening follows Unconditional Humans during Lunar New Year, which explored aware passage for the collective and is followed by Resonance (Summer), Alignment (Fall), Embodiment (Winter). These integrate inspiration and meaning across individual and unity consciousness, the pillars of Gather Center’s nonprofit mission.
Awakening is the recognition of our authentic voice over and over and over again. Awakening is the first stage of abundance, and an inner dawn. Lucas Goly answered such a call during the upheaval of early COVID in 2020 departing from hands on works for the city of New York and rediscovering his passion for creating. As a painter, Goly plays with appreciation across millennia of innovations. He assembles his perspective through color and narrative honoring what has been conceived while synthesizing all inspirations into a style uniquely his own. Goly epitomizes The Reverent Observer, a spiraling progression of wonderment and witnessing where awareness replaces judgment and inspiration is simple and sacred.
Goly’s view turns authentically within, charging him with the energy to pivot towards the unknown and actively create his existence, perspective and his artwork. Goly also absorbs and materializes the the variable responses from his viewers expanding on intentional and shared presence. He works across fine art mediums including painting, illustration, wearable art and sculpture which he will explore during his tenure as artist in residency.
