Eye For Ear
Eye for Ear is a new audio-visual art project from Brooklyn-based creative technology studio Occurrent Arts. The project brings together cinematic original music and expansive visual worlds. For Resonance, Eye for Ear presents two immersive works: Origin and Sonar.
Origin reflects on the idea that all matter, space, and time were once compressed into a single point. It wasn’t only objects that moved apart, but space itself that expanded, making every “here” and “now” relative within a constantly unfolding universe. Inspired by NASA/Hubble research that used slime mold simulations to model the flowing structure of dark matter, Origin uses a Physarum simulation made with feedback, seeded masks, and audio-reactive controls to visualize growth, expansion, and connection across cosmic distance.
Sonar explores the deep ocean, where light disappears and sound becomes the way of sensing the world. The piece draws a parallel between sonar and human expression: we send something outward, then begin to understand where we are through what comes back. Developed in TouchDesigner with cymatic patterns and Voronoi-inspired simulations, Sonar turns vibration, echo, and proximity into shifting visual structures, giving shape to the unseen and revealing connection through darkness.
